Each year, local senior centers, assisted living communities, and senior programs put their creativity on display by decorating 3-foot trees for our Wilmington Festival of Trees. These trees are showcased in a prominent area of the festival, and attendees are invited to vote for their favorite—making the Senior Tree Decorating Contest a spirited and meaningful way to support our mission.
This year’s competition raised more than $1,400, and the enthusiasm was felt throughout the festival.
Receiving the most votes and taking first place was Holly Adult Day Center, a second-year participant in the Senior Tree Decorating Contest. Their winning tree carried a powerful theme—Honoring Veterans—and was truly a group effort. More than 30 clients, some of whom are veterans themselves, each played a role in bringing the tree to life, making the project both meaningful and festive.
Holly Adult Day Center’s mission centers on encouraging families and supporting individuals living with dementia. Their team is dedicated to creating a safe, structured environment where every person is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. By recognizing each client’s individuality, privacy, lifestyle, and cultural background, Holly Adult Day Center partners with families to provide thoughtful, high-quality care.
We were thrilled to visit Holly Adult Day Center and celebrate their well-deserved win. Their tree was not only a beautiful tribute but a reflection of the care, collaboration, and respect that define their work every day.

The Senior Tree Decorating Competition continues to grow stronger each year. We can’t wait to see next year’s themed trees and who knows, perhaps Holly Adult Day Center will make it two years in a row as champions!
